A survey of some of the advances in the field of synoptic radio meteorology is presented. The development of representative refractive index profiles for major air mass types is reviewed. Included is a description of several refractive index parameters cur Topics: Radio meteorology., Synoptic meteorology.
The radio refractive index can be measured either directly or indirectly. The former method is utilized by radio frequency refractometers; the latter method involves measurement of temperature, pressure and humidity and conversion to refractive index.
